President's Column  #7   September 2005

A Message from TFT Parade President Robert Kuczera

This is year number 28 for the Chicago TFT Motorcycle Parade Organization.

Have things changed since 1978?

Well, we still deliver toys to the Marines via a motorcade down Western Avenue. Some of us have gray hair and others have no hair. Even though our event is weather related, and it seems that global warming has affected us, we normally have over 20,000 bikes participating.

The Sox and Cubs are still hoping to attain the playoffs. We still use green cards for registration verses electronic formats. We still have tiers and now have a collectible committee. We now also offer financial assistance yearly. Overall, we have not really changed all that much.

Basically we try to keep things simple. We are still a people organization run by volunteers that believe in helping those in need by making children smile via toys.

So what do we need to do to improve?

The same old requests, we still need more dedicated volunteers planting seeds before Parade date. Overall the dedication of our volunteers is committed to the day of the Parade and we cannot be without it. We will always need more volunteers for road-blocking, both riding and stationery, and many other duties for the Parade.

But before the Parade many things have to happen behind the scenes. We need more volunteers to network in the neighborhoods advising how our event happens. We need more volunteers to sell product at other bike or dealer functions, and we need more help for toy gathering and distribution. We need more volunteers to aid selling raffle tickets and collectibles.
Basically we need more volunteers to assist our organization via our committees.
The duties are many that need to happen for us to continue being successful.

As you know we are pretty much tending to TFT matters all year round. This is why we have committees to share the workload with all our directors, other than just attending board meetings. Each officer is in charge of a committee beside their officer’s duties. As members make sure you know who is in charge of what. Ask questions at general meetings of what their needs are for their committee functions.
Do not wait for the Parade date to jump in to become pro-active!

We need your help in September, October and November.
The chairpersons and standing committees are as follows:
Robert Kuczera
/ Public Relations,
Lester Fortier
/ Security,
Pat Quinn
/ Fund-Raising,
Peggy Estes
/ Front Gate,
Frank Moraza
/ Toys,
Tom Froehlich
/ Product Sales,
Tommy Rotto
/ Tier Coordinator,
Andy Strzemp
/ By-laws & Collectibles, and
Kevin Curth
/ North Side Coordinator.
Some of the aforementioned could use help in their duties.

Do not be scared to approach any of us in how you can be of help. If you are shy, you can always leave a message on our Hot-line number at 773-866-TOYS or email us at info@ChicagolandTFT.org.

So as you can see we need you all to pitch in. So start early and often and aid our committees the months of September, October and November.

This organization is all about helping others. So let’s start with ourselves so that we can continue to be the "World’s Greatest Toys for Tots Motorcycle Parade".

CAN-TV. Despite the financial failings of a citywide cable company to pay Can-TV the citywide access show goes on.

The live production of Toys for Tots live via Channel 21 will begin on Tuesday, October 4 a 6:30 PM and continue every Tuesday evening until December 27.

Who said there is nothing good on television? Join our officers, live, with special guests weekly for a live talk show all about the Toys for Tots Parade

SOUTH SUBURBAN HALLOWEEN BENEFIT. Saturday October 22nd. Glenn Makers Legion Post, located at 10739 S. Ridgeland, Chicago Ridge, Ill. This year they will be assisting two children in one family. They are Sharon and Rinea Klee. They are two sisters, age 9, with multiple medical conditions.

If there ever was an event to attend this fall it is the one. It is not only a great party with prizes for best costume, but it is a great cause to help the family of Sharon & Rinea, financially.

It is only $10 for admission and you can become a ABATE member or renew your membership that night. For more information contact TFT members Ellen or Rick Mitchell at: 773-581-4838.

MANTENO RUN: Always is a great motorcycle run to help out those who have serve our country. It is held Sunday, November 6 and starts at 9am at the corner of Harlem Avenue and 87th Street. See John Bartosiewicz for more information.

John does a great job with this and it continues to grow each year. He can also use more help. See him at our meetings on how you can help out. Please support and attend this event.

COLLECTIBLES:  There will be Christmas ornament number three. It will be green with white and gold trim. The donations tags will also be back. The Collectibles Committee contributed nearly $20,000 of the total amount of cash we will be using for monetary night this year.

So even though nowhere near the amount of the former Mattel Hot Wheel income…are they still in business? We have managed to assist others despite the disappearance of a not so Hot Wheel.

BIKE TICKETS:  John & Olivia Bartosiewicz will once again handle the raffle bike coordination. The grand prize will be a beautiful 2006 Harley-Davidson motorcycle and the drawing will be on March 18 at Oak Lawn Harley-Davidson.

This is an extremely important moneymaker as is the Sturgis Raffle. They have a pretty good team with Robert & Karen Koupeny and friends. But if you have the gift of gab or sell cars they could use more help.

STURGIS VACATION PACKAGE: This is the fundraiser that always does a lot of great networking for us at the World’s Largest Motorcycle Show and Parts Expo usually held in February at McCormick Place. Once again R&B Promotions will be one of the sponsors along with new for this year our friends at Oak Lawn Harley Davidson.

Tickets will still be $1.00 for a chance to win 5 days and 4 nights at the Comfort Inn in Rapid City during Sturgis Bike Week. You also receive $1000 for racing event tickets or however you so wish to spend it. Last year one of our members, Ron Bernichio’s sister, won the grand prize.

We are looking for some take charge volunteers to take charge of ticket distribution. See Pat Quinn or me for details.

MONEY!  MONEY!  MONEY!
On October 7,2005 (Friday) we will be having our official Monetary Distribution Meeting. Once again we will be donating to those that need financial assistance. This is our 7th consecutive year to assist others via the profitability of our collectible and product sales.

IMPORTANT: BE ON TIME. The meeting will start at 7:30 pm, SHARP. The agenda that night will be to distribute over $36,000 to about 36 different organization and families. We ask that you be attentive and respectful during the meeting.
Good conduct will be expected and appreciated!

This night is because of your successful efforts in selling product and collectibles. Thank you Volunteers!

Sincerely Robert "Cooch" Kuczera
