A Message from TFT Parade President Robert Kuczera

As you know we recently had our elections and basically all the positions were uncontested. Therefore, it seems that either the membership is satisfied with our structure or many of our dedicated volunteers cannot dutifully commit themselves. I applaud all those returning and thank them for sticking around another year: Pat Quinn, Lester Fortier (newly elected VP), Tommy Rotto, Peggy Estes, Tom Froehlich, and Kevin Curth .You all accomplished what in the history of the Parade was determined as the largest ever. Thank you for your continuing dedication to serve as officers. Jack Voss and Tommy Yarber were also part of the team that set the record. They both decided to tend to more personal matters and, respectfully, did not run for office for 2005. They are both tremendous assets and will remain as volunteers.

So first off, I would like to thank Jack "Howdy" Voss, who decided to spend more time on his farm. Kidding!  What did he do for us anyway? He gave us five years of dedication as the Bylaws and Historian coordinator. He introduced us to the electronic age with a web site via his sidekick Ed May, that has been applauded by everyone.  As you know, his Updates and message board maintenance really has become a major communication asset for us. He still will be maintaining these communications despite his stepping down. His library of videos could someday be made into a montage of historical TFT episodes. He was our Ed McMahon for our CAN-TV shows. He scripted for us a much needed membership handbook. He coordinated our first TFT motorcycle and auto plates, along with the help of friend Jack Wheeler. Those plates were even known to help out in avoiding traffic citations. He assisted with whispers at the meeting for correcting our errors as he always had dates and events at hand. You were also a very good indiscreet note-taker when needed. You did whatever was asked, and you could always count on Jack to do it. We know the distance factor was a major reason for your departing but we also know when it comes to your help you will never be that far away.

Ditto to Tom "Big Daddy" Yarber for stepping up to be the Vice-President. He definitely made it easier for me and helped us in moving forward. His dedication, along with Claudia, in chairing our well-experienced Toy Committee gave them some extra hands needed in that department. His toy box request forms made our members more accountable to the Toy Committee. Thanks for networking to the younger generations and educating our future volunteers via the schools you worked with. The initiation of both Argos and Kelly High Schools involvement with us has set some basis groundwork so that we may pass the torch to our teenagers in the future. Thanks for talking the TFT talk wherever he could, whenever you could. Thanks for proposing the first form of incentive reward to the membership. You can keep the $1,000,000 in TFT bucks until you have it officially rolled out. Does the Orangeman know about this reward system? Lastly, thanks for continuing in assisting us in other ways, collectibles, swap meets, Green Ribbon, as you always have done.

We know that when a hand is needed they both will always still be available. Good luck to both of them in their time off as officers. But we know we can still count on both of them as committed TFT volunteers.

Welcome aboard newly elected Andy Strzemp (By-Laws/ Historian/Collectibles) and Frank Moraza (Sgt.at Arms/ Toys), you both have big shoes to fill but are indeed capable of wearing them. They both have been around for a while and are experienced in both of the areas they will be chairing. Hopefully their new suggestions and ideas will make things even better. Each of the committees they will be chairing have some great staffing, so their tasks should not be that difficult. Do not hesitate to contact those who led the way before. We know that their commitments and sincerity to fulfill our objectives will be well served during their terms. Also welcome Lester Fortier for moving up to second-in-command as Vice President. Lester's years of service with the Board and his observational wisdom will help keep us intact when we slip once in a while.  As you all know, we have our worked cut out for us this year. Do not plan on The Parade getting any smaller. Our task at hand once again this year will not be any easier. The Parade will be under a microscope due to the magnitude it has grown and sadly because of a loss of a gentleman by the name of Frank Greisto. Our job again this year will be to communicate and to educate all about how The Parade happens and to seek and find more HELP. So good luck to the Board, and if anything be sure to recruit from our membership to help you. . We have volunteers available. Seek and find them because as officers we cannot do it all, but we can accomplish much if we use those volunteers whom want to help.

Thank you to all the motorcyclists that participated in the event on 4/9/05 to welcome our Marines from the 24th Battalion for their welcome home celebration at the Rosemont.  A big thank you to our VP (Lester Fortier) along with Andy Strzemp, Tommy Yarber, Ron Iacono, Turtle. and Ed "Aminal" Wisniewski. who coordinated the efforts of the nearly 200 motorcycles that showed up that morning to show their support. I believe that the emotions and smiles you made that day will remain with you all forever. You truly made our servicemen and families feel welcome as they are sometimes neglected with fanfare in their returns to our homeland.  I would also like to thank Kevin Curth, the Parade's North Side Coordinator, for his due diligence and efforts to co-ordinate all the logistics with the Marines at the Rosemont Center, to make it a special day for all that attended. Especially for his daily communication with Sgt. Rita O' Reilly and Sgt. Caputo, who logistically managed this very special welcome home for our 24th Marines.

Thanks again to one and all whom helped or participated that day to show these soldiers that their service is indeed appreciated .

Thank you to all those that attended, or contributed to, the Wayne Dembowski Benefit. Especially Lester, Lynn, Terri, Pat, Andy, and Claudia for manning the TFT table at this benefit event.  A big thank you to Sgt. Rita O'Reilly, Officer Coates and PFC Flynn for attending and donating Marine door prizes that night. Sgt  Rita advised all in attendance that The Parade set a record this year for the national Toys for Tots campaign, despite their Battalion being overseas. More on that later. Kudos to all the policemen and friends of Wayne that help us make this happen.  It is all the motorcyclists, such as Wayne, that commit themselves yearly to attend our event to help a child receive a toy. Thanks for giving back to support Wayne for his assisting us. That evening we managed to raise another $1200 from auctioning off and selling some TFT product to assist Wayne in his furthering rehabilitation. He was elated with the TFT jacket which he wore all night as did his wife Myrna with her TFT afghan comforter.

The Polish Parade is on this coming Saturday, May 7.  CTFTMP will once again be one of the participants. This event has become a very large ethnic parade that is attended by thousands downtown along Columbus Drive. George Gora (Gorowski), Doc Elf  ( Joe Sadowski), Cooch (Kuczera), Aminal (Wisniewski), Tommy Yarber (Yaborowski), Andy (Strzemp?) will be some of the attendees that day. This is a TFT sponsored event . We need more attendees that day. We will gather at Koffee Kettle Restaurant about 10 am, if you would like breakfast, located at 63rd & Mayfield.  Otherwise, we will be departing there at 11 am as we have to be in our staging area downtown at Noon. Please decorate your bike with a few toys to show that we are The Chicagoland Toys for Tots Motorcycle Parade, as there are also other motorcycle organizations in attendance. This is a fun day, and generally we have some interesting participants near us. Cannot go into details as it might not be politically correct.

Also remember we are an official sponsor of the Third Annual Green Ribbon Rally on Sunday, June 12 at Plumber's Hall located at 1340 West Washington in Chicago. George Wendt "Norm" from "Cheers" will gladly bend elbows, sign autographs and pose for pictures. This is a great place to meet some of those who participated in our Parade. There is also food, music, and tons of prizes, ala auctions and raffles. It only costs $ 10 to attend and it goes to assist Gastro Intestinal Liver Disease Research. So mark this on your calendar.  Rally starts at 11am and ends at 3pm . They are also raffling off a 2005 HD Dyna Low Rider that day. Raffle tickets are only $10.00 each and only 4000 will be sold. If anyone is interested in tickets for the bike, contact me at 773-581-5658. For more information call 866-842-2003 or visit www.greenribbonrally.org

Also the following week is the 3rd Illinois Motorcycle Freedom Run Saturday, June 18, 2005. As you all know two of our members originated this event three years ago. So let's show our support to Tony "Greaseball" Cutrano and Jerry "Cooch" Kuczera by attending their Return to the Wall on Saturday, June 18, 2005. As you know the donations received will offset the cost of adding names to this memorial wall in Marseilles. Donation: $10.00 per person to participate in the 50 mile ride from Chicagoland Speedway (Joliet, Ill) that morning. Lineup starts at 8:00 am and departure is 10:00 am. Tributes, refreshments, live music and much more will follow the Memorial Wall Ceremony in Marseilles that day. They still need volunteers so please visit their website at: www.ilfreedomrun.org. for more information.

There are a heck of a lot of rides to go on so please make sure you review the calendar in your newsletter to see what other motorcycle events are forthcoming. Some others you might want to highlight are The Run for the Sun, Ride for Kids, the Little Angels' Ride, and Park Lawns Charity Ride. I am sure I missed a few so make sure you review our calendar.

Hoping to see many of you during the summer. There are a lot of rides we participate in. So we should cross paths before the first Sunday in December (12/4/05). Be safe and keep the rubber side down.

Sincerely, Robert "Cooch" Kuczera. President
