Jack's Update #71    February 22, 2006

Election Results

Here are the results from the election for the positions on the Board of Directors held on Friday, February 3, 2006.

  • Robert "Cooch" Kuczera will continue as President of the Parade Organization for this his third year as President and his eleventh year as a member of the TFT Parade's Board of Directors.

  • Lester Fortier will continue as Vice-President for his second year.

  • Peggy Estes will remain as Secretary for her ninth year.

  • The position of Treasurer will again go to Pat Quinn for her fifth year.

  • The Sergeant-at-Arms will be Frank Moraza for his second year.

  • Kevin Curth will again be the Marine Center Coordinator for his third year.

  • The Parade Coordinator will again be Tommy Rotto for this his eighth year.

  • Andy Strzemp will return as By-laws/Historian for his second year

  • The Product Coordinator will be a new member to the Board, Darlene "Tomada" Conley.

We want to thank retiring Board member Tom Froehlich for all his hard work as our Product Coordinator for the past five years, and his ten years on the Product Committee.  But he will not get to relax very long, for he has accepted the position of Safety and Education Director of the Chicago Chapter of ABATE.  Congratulations and good luck with your new job, and thanks for your service to the Organization.

We welcome Tomada to the Board, and look forward to working with her.

The special survey question asked members if absentee ballots should be made available in future elections.  The surprising results were 62 NO votes, 56 YES votes, and an amazing 55 ballots, nearly 30%, were not marked and left blank.  Apparently, many members could not decide, didn't have an opinion, or just didn't see the question.

We congratulate all the Board members and thank them for accepting their positions.  Our thanks to the following members who volunteered to stay and count the ballots; Joy Black, Sherrie Liver, Dave Kieffer, Jim Filipovich, Robbyn Paluch, and Tom Dertz.  Thanks to all the members who came out to vote.

TFT Parade Night at "CUBS WIN!  The Unauthorized Comedy" this Friday

"CUBS WIN!-The Unauthorized Comedy" is a new play by Michael Flores about the totem pole at Lake Shore Drive and Recreation Drive. In the show, the Wrigley Field beer vendors discover that all totem poles are supposed to face east for good luck. Unfortunately, ours faces west so that the drivers on LSD can see it. The beer vendors turn the totem pole around, leading to the Cubs to head to the World Series.

When Michael Flores, a playwright and a biker, heard that the 2005 TFT Parade was almost snowed-out, he decided to help by having a special performance to benefit the TFT Parade Organization.  The date will be this Friday, February 24 at 7 pm.  Admission is $10.  After all shows, the cast will autograph baseballs and sell them for $10 with all proceeds going to The TFT Parade.  So come out to the Sonotheque Theater at 1444 West Chicago Avenue on February 24th.

The show runs Thursdays and Fridays to March 10.  Doors open at 7:00 PM, show starts promptly at 7:30 PM.  Not a baseball fan?  Don't worry, there's plenty of laughs for everyone.  There are even enough laughs for White Sox fans too!

2005 TFT Parade shirts, jackets, hats, Christmas ornaments and more will be available for purchase at the theatre. Call 312-226-7600 or www.sonotheque.net  or  http://cubswin.blogdrive.com/ .

If you like thespians, come out for an evening of fun this Friday!

Cooch and his new Assistants

Be sure to see the new photos of our esteemed President Cooch as he emcees the fashion show at the 2006 Supercycle Show at McCormick Place earlier this month.  It was a dirty job, but someone had to do it.  Executive privileges.  Thanks to Ray Sofia for the great shots.  Check them out by going to the TFT Parade Photo Page and clicking on the 2006 Supercycle Show slide show at http://chicagolandtft.org/parade_pictures.htm .  Hey Cooch, hope you signed your friends up as new members.

Obtaining Toys

Many families ask about how to obtain toys for their children.  The thing to remember about obtaining toys is that the Marines do not give toys directly to children or families.  They are not equipped to do that.  The Marines and The Chicago TFT Parade Organization give the toys to neighborhood groups such as local churches, schools, hospitals, the DCFS, Catholic Charities, The Community Chest and other similar organizations.  Those looking for toys must contact one of these groups to obtain toys.
