Jack's Update #68    December 15, 2005

Get Your 2005 Parade Merchandise Now

The amount of riders at the 2005 Chicago TFT Parade was down substantially as compared to past years, therefore the amount of toys collected is also far less than was expected and less than is needed.  But there is still time to help by buying and donating a new toy, or in some cases, another new toy.  Toy donations will be accepted for only a few more days, so don't wait any longer.

Another way to help The Parade Organization, is to purchase the highly-coveted 2005 TFT Parade merchandise.  We have shirts, hats, scarves, and jackets, as well as Christmas ornaments, collectible toy motorcycles, and ceramic Biker Bear figurines and more. If you have already purchased a 2005 Parade shirt or ornament, buy another one!   And remember, every item not only makes a great Christmas gift, but the sales of these Parade products will allow us to help more children this Christmas.

Get your Chicago TFT Parade merchandise this Friday, December 16 at TFT Parade Headquarters in the Stempien VFW located at 4235 West 47th Street, 47th and Tripp, from 7-10 pm.

There will be a special TFT Parade Product Outlet in the Chicago Ridge Mall at Ridgeland Avenue and 95th Street, this Saturday from 8 am-11 pm, and this Sunday from 9 am-9 pm.  Look for Parade Product Sales in the Food Court.

TFT Parade products will be on sale at our newest outlet Stars and Stripes Silk-screening and Embroidery at 7460 West 100 Place in Bridgeview, 60455. Shop there Monday through Friday from 9 am-5:30 pm and Saturdays from 10 am-3 pm. For info call 888-706-0600.

Cigars and Stripes, at 6715 West Ogden Avenue in Berwyn, will also be selling TFT Parade products.  For more info go to; http://www.cigarsandstripes.com/index.html .

A selection of 2005 TFT Parade merchandise is available at Oak Lawn Harley-Davidson in Oak Lawn, Illinois Harley-Davidson in Berwyn, and Chi-town Harley-Davidson in Tinley Park.

2005 TFT Parade pins are available at Wild Fire Harley-Davidson in Villa Park at 120 West Lake Street.

Parade Raffles Underway

The 2005 Chicago TFT Parade may be over, but the TWO, BIG TFT Parade Raffles are still in full swing.  The Sturgis Vacation Raffle includes a room and cash to spend at the 2006 Black Hills Motorcycle Rally and The 2006 Harley-Davidson Raffle features a beautiful new 2006 Harley-Davidson FLHXI Street Glide.

The Black Hills Motorcycle Rally is held every year in and around Sturgis, South Dakota, and you can be there in the middle of it all if you win this awesome vacation package.  The winner will receive four nights at the luxurious Comfort Inn in Rapid City, South Dakota, plus one thousand dollars ($1000) in cash, which can buy lots of souvenirs or be used for bail money.  The drawing will be held at the Chicago Supercycle Show and Parts Expo held at McCormick Place North on February 5.  Look for the TFT Parade Volunteers at the TFT Parade Booth for tickets and Parade info.  Raffle tickets are $1 each, and the winners need not be present to win.  This is sponsored by The Chicago TFT Motorcycle Parade and R&B Promotions.  Mail orders for ticket requests of at least $10 will be accepted, contact us at info@ChicagolandTFT.org .

The FLHXI Street Glide® . It’s everything you need for a long motorcycle trip and nothing more.  The rider who needs only a comfy seat, a place to store the odd belonging and something to keep the wind off the chest will like what they find here.  The styling is clean, in vivid blue, and perfect for adding on, or not. With fork-mounted batwing fairing, lockable hard saddlebags, and roomy floorboards, what else do you need?  Tickets for the 2006 FLHXI Raffle are $5 each. Tickets may be obtained from any TFT Parade Volunteer, and will also be available at TFT Parade meetings and at many motorcycle swap meets in the area.  Those outside the Chicago area may email raffle ticket requests to The Parade web site at info@ChicagolandTFT.org .  The winner is responsible for all taxes and license fees, and winners do not have to be present to win, and will be notified ASAP.  The Drawing will be on Saturday, March 18, 2006 at Oak Lawn Harley-Davidson.  Get your tickets NOW!!!

Parade Mail

The following correspondence was received at the TFT Parade web site.  You may send your views, comments or questions to info@ChicagolandTFT.org .

"I became a member this year. Its my first time riding in the parade and I loved it. I will be back every year!"
Gwen F.

"After making the run safely we arrived at the Marine Corp Depot and were greeted with, what appeared to be, GREASE on the asphalt!  What the hell was that?"
Johnny O.

"Read the report on this year's parade and wanted to convey that, very likely, many of us who have been past participants, including our small group from North Maywood, also monitored the weather up until Saturday and made a regretful but individually valid decision not to participate based on what we judged to be the relative risk vs. the understandably valuable goal.  Our decision was based on what we know from our training and discussions about proficient and safe riding, not only for ourselves but the hazard we may have posed to other riders and drivers.  The bottom line was precipitation and hazardous road conditions, salt piles etc., getting to and from the parade route.  Kudos to the "die-hards".  We're not "fair weather only" riders, but everyone has their own threshold of acceptable risk in an inherently risky pastime.  We'll be back.   Kind Regards and Christmas Peace to all."
O.J. and riding buddies.

"Thank you, you've done an outstanding job and for your dedication in organizing the event.  I was a little disappointed myself on the outcome, being that this was my first time actually being involved in the committee and road blocking after 6 years of being a rider in the parade.  Keep up the good work and may the Lord bless you."
Duke/Nina C.

"Well, this is the 2nd year I rode in the toy run out here in Las Vegas sponsored by the Ironcrossmen MC. There were over 1000 bikes this year, more so than the last two. This is a smaller riding community than Chicago, but none the same it was really great. Unfortunately, it's not the same type of crowd. This one is run by ONE motorcycle club. All clubs wear colors, however, there is lots of animosity because of the territory out here, and who runs the city. Sort of biker mafia which over hangs the day of the event. Scares lots of Citizens away, both bikers & non.  I sure miss the Chicagoland toy run, I miss my friends, and I miss the camaraderie of everyone participating. Of course I miss DogKiller & Johnny, my two best riding buddies of all times.  And Jack Wheeler for dragging my ass to my very first TFT meeting.   Those were the days.   All of my love to everyone,"
Rebel Ruthi

"Hi Guys,  Great work this year!  All volunteers did an incredible job.  Thank you, God bless, and Merry Christmas.  Please add my business' name to the list of TFT drop off sites.  I have an official TFT box at my Oak Park location and am even offering a raffle of prizes for toy donators:  The Competitive Foot, 102 N. Marion, Oak Park, IL  Thanks and see you next year"
Todd E.

"Had a wonderful time on the 4th!  Despite the weather it was a blast."
Laura S.

"Great Web Site, Always detailed and up-to-date, and lastly a quick Thank you to Northside Animal!  If it wasn't for you I wouldn't have been doing TFT Parade's for the last 13 years.  Now I finally have a license, I can hopefully ride by the 29th or 30th annv. BY MYSELF! :)"
Susan

"Thanks for all the work the volunteers put in.  It's always so great to participate in the parade, (...no matter what the weather).  The kids deserve it and the people we meet are great"
Joseph G.

The Toy Committee needs toys NOW!!!

Now is the time to bring your toy donations and toy donation boxes to the TFT Parade Warehouse at 8900 South Odell Avenue in Bridgeview, evenings from 7 pm until 9 pm. If you delivered or requested a Toy Box, check and make sure that someone will be bringing the toys to the Parade Warehouse by this weekend or ASAP!!!

Obtaining Toys

Many families ask about how to obtain toys for their children.  The thing to remember about obtaining toys is that the Marines do not give toys directly to children or families.  They are not equipped to do that.  The Marines and The Chicago TFT Parade Organization give the toys to neighborhood groups such as local churches, schools, hospitals, the DCFS, Catholic Charities, The Community Chest and other similar organizations.  Those looking for toys must contact one of these groups to obtain toys.
