Jack's Update #49    September 2004

The 2004 Kick-off Party

The 2004 Kick-off Party will mark the beginning of the 27th year of the Chicagoland Toys for Tots Motorcycle Parade.  The Kick-off Party will be this Saturday, September 18, at the Stempien VFW, at 47th Street and Tripp Avenue.  Come out for an evening of fun, food, and entertainment, and to learn about the Chicago Toys for Tots Motorcycle Parade Organization.

As in past years, there will be a large array of delicious food items, many from the kitchens of the Parade Members, and this year the Kick-off Party is proud to feature entertainment by TFT Parade Member, the one and only, Tony Rome.

Admission to the Kick-off Party is only $10 per person, and anyone who decides to become a Parade Volunteer that evening, will have their $10 admission fee applied to a one year membership in The Parade Organization. Current TFT Parade Members will be admitted for $5.

There will be lots of fun and surprises, so be sure to be there.  This is a great opportunity to see old friends and meet new ones.

Financial Gift Presentation Night
Friday, September 24 will be the date of a very special event for The Parade Organization, the Financial Gift Presentation Night.  This evening, The Parade Volunteers will distribute the funds that have been collected through the sales of Parade merchandise.  Representatives from dozens of groups will be on hand to receive our gifts.  Everyone is invited to attend.  The festivities will start at 7:30pm at the Stempien VFW on the corner of 47th Street and Tripp Avenue in Chicago.

General Meeting #1
The first General Meeting of 2004 will take place on Friday, October 1, 2004.  It takes hundreds of volunteers and lots of planning to organize a motorcycle parade of this magnitude.  At the seven meetings prior to The Parade, new members will be informed about the operations of The Parade Organization, and all members will be assigned to specific duties for the day of The Parade.  Parade merchandise will also be sold at the General Meetings, which offers a great opportunity to obtain 2004 products before The Parade.  After the meetings, refreshments will be available for a small fee, and there will be a raffles for door prizes and a 50/50 prize. Anyone interested in helping at The Parade is welcome to attend this meeting.  And remember, you do not have to own or ride a motorcycle to join in.

Schedule of Parade Meetings
All General Meetings will be held at the Stempien VFW at 47th Street and Tripp Avenue and will begin at 7:30pm.  All Northside Meetings will be held at LAMA Headquarters at 3519 West Fullerton Avenue, and will begin at 8pm.

Benefit for Rita Stevenson-September 25
This event will benefit TFT Member, Rita Stevenson, the 27-year-old mother of three little boys, who has also been raising her three nieces for the past six years.  This young woman has endured more hardship in the past several years than anyone should ever have to. Rita was diagnosed with a large pituitary tumor in her brain that will require a craniotomy to remove.  As you can imagine, their current financial state is not good, and we anticipate that the situation will only degrade as Rita has not been able to work since discovering the tumor, and will not be able to return to work for several months after her brain surgery.   We are hoping to ease her burden just a little so that she can go into this challenge with a positive outlook and attitude.

Braidwood Knights of Columbus Toy Drive and Poker Run-October 9
The Knights of Columbus located in Braidwood, Illinois will sponsor a toy drive and a poker run on Saturday, October 9.  The activities will start at the K C Hall at 75 South Hickory in Braidwood.  Poker Run participation costs $10 for solo riders and $15 for couples, plus a new toy donation.  Includes raffles, door prizes and food. Help make the first year a success.  Call Dan Belcher at 815-458-0035 for more details.
