Jack's Update #48    August 2004

Welcome

We appreciate your interest in the Parade Organization and hope you will participate in some of the events listed below.  We are always looking for Parade Volunteers, so consider becoming a Member.  The 2004 Kick-off Party on September 18th is the best time to start.  Kick-off Party details are listed below.  We hope to see you there..

100 Days to go (from August 26th)
There are exactly 100 days until Sunday, December 5th and the 2004 Chicagoland Toys for Tots Motorcycle Parade.  And that means that many things are really jumping in the Chicagoland TFT Motorcycle Parade Organization.  Members of the Parade's Product and Collectible Committees, as well as all the other Committees, have been hard at work preparing for Parade Day.  There will be new 2004 Parade Merchandise, including exciting new designs for the Parade shirts, and a new 2004 Christmas Ornament.  Plus, this year will see the introduction of a great, new fund-raising project that will allow the community to help our Organization.  This should be another exciting Parade Season, and it all starts with The Kick-off Party on Saturday, September 18th.  Then, the following Friday, September 24th, will be the Financial Gift Presentation Night, where we will distribute the funds that we have raised through the sales of Parade Merchandise, raffle tickets, donations, etc.  So be sure to come to the Stempien VFW Post, at 47th Street and Tripp Avenue, and bring your friends.

Sunday August 29th at Saint Joseph
This Sunday, Parade Members will again participate in what has become an exciting tradition in the Parade Organization, the Ride-in Bike Show and Party at the Saint Joseph Carondelet Center in Chicago.  Each year we visit the young men at Saint Joseph's and share our motorcycles with them.  They are always eager to see the bikes up close, and will undoubtedly ask countless questions about them.  The boys stage a Bike Show where they decide the winners and present their awards.  There are also bike games, bike rides, and lots of tire kicking.  We will bring refreshments and gifts to the youngsters, which ends a day they won't soon forget.  Come join us by meeting at Pindos Restaurant, Archer and Pulaski, for breakfast, then heading, as a group, to the Center at 12:30pm.  That's this Sunday!   Call Cooch for details, 773-581-5658.

The Green Ribbon Rally
The TFT Parade Organization was again a supporting sponsor of the 2004 Green Ribbon Motorcycle Ride and Rally, held this past June. The event actually began at three different locations in the north, west, and southern suburbs, where riders gathered to begin the Observation Rides to the Rally site at the Plumber's Union Hall in the Loop.   The three groups met on Lake Shore Drive, near the Buckingham Fountain, and headed south to the Museum of Science and Industry. The riders then headed north and took a break at Soldier Field, before heading for the rally site.  The Rally offered many interesting segments, including vendors booths, silent and live auctions, a bike raffle, great food, a bike show, and live music.  The Master of Ceremonies was our distinguished Parade President Robert Kuczera, and George Wendt, Norm from "Cheers", was on hand and graciously signed autographs and posed for pictures.  It was a great event and a great way to support the UIC research into Gastro-Intestinal Liver Diseases.

Come to the greatest garage sale anywhere!  The Tinley Park Garage Sale will be held on Saturday, September 11.  Not only is this an exciting event to attend, but the TFT Parade Organization will benefit from the day's action, just like last year.  Volunteers are needed on the day of the event, and on the days prior to the event  To help, or for more info, please email Pat Quinn at the TFT Parade Website.

2004 Kick-off Party-September 18
The 27th year of the Chicagoland Toys for Tots Motorcycle Parade will begin with the 2004 Kick-off Party on Saturday, September 18th.  Come to the Stempien VFW, at 47th Street and Tripp Avenue, for an evening of fun, and an opportunity to learn more about the Chicago TFT Motorcycle Parade Organization.  For a $10 donation you can enjoy an evening of food, music, raffles, and lots of fun and surprises with the members of the Parade Organization.  This year's special entertainment will feature TFT Parade Member, the one and only Tony Rome.  And anyone who wishes to become a TFT Parade Volunteer, will have their $10 donation applied toward a one year membership in the Parade Organization.   Current TFT Parade Members will be admitted for $5.  The doors open at 5pm.  Don't miss it!

Financial Gift Presentations--September 24
The Financial Gift Presentation Night will take place on Friday, September 24, 2004.  This evening the TFT Parade Organization will distribute the funds that have been generated through the sales of Parade merchandise, raffle tickets, donations, etc.  Representatives from dozens of charity groups, families and individuals will be present to accept our gifts.  The Stempien VFW Post will host the festivities beginning at 7:30pm.

Benefit for Rita Stevenson-September 25
This event will benefit TFT Member, Rita Stevenson, the 27-year-old mother of three little boys, who has also been raising her three nieces for the past six years.  This young woman has endured more hardship in the past several years than anyone should ever have to. Rita was diagnosed with a large pituitary tumor in her brain that will require a craniotomy to remove.  As you can imagine, their current financial state is not good, and we anticipate that the situation will only degrade as Rita has not been able to work since discovering the tumor, and will not be able to return to work for several months after her brain surgery.   We are hoping to ease her burden just a little so that she can go into this challenge with a positive outlook and attitude.

Braidwood Knights of Columbus Toy Drive and Poker Run-October 9
