Jack's Update  Update  #41    November 2003

Only two weeks to go!

The 26th Annual Chicagoland
Toys for Tots Motorcycle Parade
9:30am  Sunday, December 7, 2003
The Dan Ryan Woods - 83rd Street and Western Avenue

What started with a handful of Chicago motorcycle riders, has over the past 25 years, evolved into one of America's favorite motorcycle events, The Chicagoland Toys for Tots Motorcycle Parade.  The Chicago TFT Parade has become the largest toy contributor to the USMCR Toys for Tots Program, and from the sales of Chicago Parade merchandise, each year the Parade Organization generously gives thousands of dollars to many charities, families, and individuals in the Midwest.

Thanks to all the motorcyclists, and non-riders, who donate toys and contribute dollars to help brighten the lives of those in need.

Toys for Tots Day in Chicago

The Honorable Mayor Richard M. Daley and the City Council of Chicago has announced that Sunday, December 7th will be Toys for Tots Day in Chicago.  Parade members Bob Kuczera, Tommy Rotto, and George Gora were welcomed to City Hall by Mayor Daley, many Aldermen, and other Chicago officials.

We're sure that we will soon see The Mayor wearing his new gifts of a Chicago TFT Motorcycle Parade sweatshirt and cap.

Marine Birthday/Veterans Day Party
One of the highlights of each year is the Marine Birthday/Veterans Day Party. This year, the festivities began with an "empty table" ceremony honoring those from the five branches of the military who haven't returned. The ceremony included patriotic readings from Parade members and guests as well as musical selections.

At the completion of the ceremony, as the volunteers enjoyed a large selection of delicious foods, VP Bob Cooch and Gina Atilano presented awards to individuals who have helped the Parade Organization over the past year.

The evening ended with rock and roll from "The Brighton Parkers" and Parade member Tony Rome.

Toy Suggestions

There is no fee, sign-in or registration, to ride in The Parade, just bring at least one new toy to donate. No used toys.  Please do not donate stuffed animals. They pick up too much dirt and germs for kids to play with. Books, board games, model cars, baby toys, dolls, sports gear, and craft kits are recommended.  Batteries are good too.  Protect the toys from bad weather, but do not gift wrap your toy donations. Toys must be sorted before being delivered, so they must not be wrapped.  All wrapped toys must be unwrapped before they will be accepted.  So remember, no gift wrapping, no stuffed animals and no food or pets.
